Bartholomaeus. Eustachius; Tabulae Anatomicae... Praefatione, Notisque Illustravit; Medicia Rara; Fine; Limited Edition; 1980; #95/2500. One of 500 copies full maroon leather, original lined slipcase, five spine bands, gilt titles, decoration, green top-stain. Facsimile reprint taken from the plates of the 1714 Lancisi first edition. Introduction states, "The anatomical copper-plates of the Italian doctor and anatomist Bartholomaeus Eustachius, though unpublished 150 years after their creation and forgotten by contemporary and succeeding generations alike, have been recognized since their sensational rediscovery and first publication by Lancisi in 1714 as a document of the greatest importance in the history of medicine. Eustachius subsequently achieved the reputation denied him during his lifetime as one of the significant founders of modern scientific anatomy - on a level with his famous predecessor Vesalius, upon whose pioneering work Eustachius elaborated in many details.";
